Daily Devotional: A Heart that Makes Room

By David A. Case

Overcoming Trauma: Redeeming Pain

Life Sayings:

  • God comes to those who make room for Him.

“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.” — Matthew 5:8 (NKJV)

Purity of heart is not about moral perfection. It’s about single-mindedness. It’s about saying to God, “I want what You want. I will follow where You lead.” The pure in heart don’t cling to their own perspectives. They hold their understanding loosely and invite God to shape it.

What God is looking for is not brilliance, but openness. He reveals Himself to those who make room for Him. The person who is willing to surrender pride and self-reliance—the one who humbly acknowledges need—is the one who begins to see with clarity.

A heart that makes room for God is a heart that surrenders its right to be right. It is willing to be corrected. It invites God in, not just to comfort or bless, but to lead.

Revelation comes to the willing. It comes to those who stop trying to fit God into their box and instead ask Him to dismantle the box altogether. When we stop defending ourselves, stop managing our image, and stop explaining away our pain, God draws near.

If you are willing to lay down your interpretations and open your heart, He will come. That is His promise. He will be found by you (1 Chron. 28:9). He is not hiding. He is waiting for your invitation.

Reflection Question

Is there any area of your life where you have been holding on to your own understanding rather than making room for God’s?

Prayer

Lord, I want to see You more clearly, but I confess that my heart is often full of my own opinions, wounds, and fears. I ask You to purify my heart—to give me a single-minded desire to know You and to walk in Your ways. I surrender my assumptions. I lay down my need to be right. Come and take Your rightful place in me. Reveal Your truth, and help me make room for You today. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Obedience Step for Today

Write down one belief, fear, or assumption that you now realize might be clouding your view of God or life. Pray over it, and ask God to replace it with His truth. Then, spend time in Scripture listening for His voice.
