Life Sayings:
When I finally get over me, I can see God and others.
“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.” — Isaiah 55:8–9 (NKJV)
We all interpret life through the lens of what is already in our hearts. That means, if our hearts are full of fear, pain, or self-focus, we will see the world through those distorted lenses. Even our sincere efforts to understand God or follow Him are often clouded by this inner static.
The sobering truth is that we are not capable of climbing our way into the thoughts of God. His ways and His thoughts are on a higher plane. No matter how focused or disciplined we try to be, we cannot force our way into His perspective. We need Him to break in.
This is where revelation becomes not just helpful—but necessary. We need God to reveal Himself. We need Him to reach down and shine light into the dark places of our hearts. Whether it comes through Scripture, a godly voice, or a moment of spiritual insight, what we need is not self-effort but divine intervention.
God honors the honest seeker. In 1 Chronicles 28:9, He promises that if we seek Him with a loyal heart and a willing mind, He will be found by us. We do not find Him because we are smart or spiritual. We find Him because He chooses to make Himself known.
This kind of seeking is not passive. It is wholehearted. It says to God, “If You show Yourself to me, I will respond. I will obey.” That kind of heart posture opens the door for Him to reveal truth, even truth that contradicts what we think or feel.
Revelation is not about us achieving some new level of understanding. It’s about God breaking through. When that happens, we begin to see things the way He sees them—and nothing is ever the same again.
Reflection Question
Have you asked God to reveal Himself to you—not just for understanding, but with a commitment to follow what He shows you?
Prayer
Lord, I acknowledge that Your thoughts are higher than mine. I confess that I often try to understand life and even You through the limits of my own understanding. Please break in. Reveal Yourself to me. Help me to seek You with a loyal heart and a willing mind. I want to know You—not just know about You. Lead me into truth, and give me the grace to walk in it. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Obedience Step for Today
Take ten minutes to quiet your heart before God. Ask Him, out loud if possible, to show you one area where you are relying on your own understanding instead of seeking His. Then ask for His truth in that area—and commit to follow where He leads.
