Daily Devotional: Power in Partnership

By David A. Case

Overcoming Trauma: Redeeming Pain

Life Sayings:

  • The spirit realm is a multiplier.

“Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.” —Ephesians 3:20–21 (NKJV)

When Paul says that God is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all we ask or think, it stirs hope in most of us. We long for that kind of power in our lives. However, he adds a condition: God works according to the power that is at work within us. That phrase, “according to,” reveals something vital. The power of God flows in proportion to the space we give Him in our spirit, our mind, and our actions. It is a partnership.

God never intended for the spirit of man to function independently. We were designed to be filled and empowered by His presence. The power of the Holy Spirit is meant to be a renewable energy source that charges our emotions, thoughts, and choices. That is how God brings transformation.

The challenge is this: God will not partner with anything that is contrary to His nature. If there is pride, bitterness, or selfishness in the heart, He will not fuel it with His power. The spirit realm multiplies both good and evil. A tiny flicker of lust or jealousy, when energized by darkness, can become a force that overtakes a person. Similarly, a small flicker of faith, energized by the Holy Spirit, can move mountains.

We often think our first awareness of these spiritual movements is in the mind or emotions, but most spiritual activity starts earlier—at the subconscious, spiritual level. We don’t need to be fully aware of these influences for them to affect us. The good news is, we are not powerless. In the end, the body wins. That is, our actions solidify and confirm whatever spirit is at work within us.

This is why Jesus said, “Whatever you bind on earth is bound in heaven” (Matt. 18:18). The choice to speak, to act, to obey—that is what opens the door to spiritual flow. Whether the Spirit of God is knocking, or the demonic is whispering, the one we respond to will determine which power multiplies through us.

The goal of transformation is not only spiritual awareness but whole-person partnership with God. Spirit, soul, and body must agree with Him. Anything less short-circuits the flow. The more I say “yes” to God in thought, word, and action, the more His power multiplies through my life.

Reflection Question

Where in your life have you seen a small act of obedience multiply into something more powerful? What part of your being—spirit, soul, or body—has been slow to say “yes” to God?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I long to be filled with Your presence in every part of who I am. Forgive me for the places where I have said “no” to You—whether in my thoughts, my attitudes, or my actions. Help me to say a full “yes” today. Fill me with Your Spirit. Multiply Your power in me so that others would see Your glory and goodness through my life. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Obedience Step for Today

Choose one area where your actions have not yet aligned with your spiritual convictions. Take a small but deliberate step of obedience in that area today—whether in what you say, how you serve, or how you surrender. Let your body agree with what your spirit desires.
