Icy-blue image of open hands receiving soft light, representing the Heart Change principle that value cannot be achieved but must be received from God and through healthy connection.

“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye.” — Psalm 32:8, NKJV

Heart Change Insight

“The deepest answer to anxiety is not a tool. The deepest answer is connection.” — David A. Case, The Anxiety Iceberg eBook

There comes a point when understanding what is happening inside us becomes an invitation to respond. We may recognize a pattern, identify a fear, or finally see why a certain situation affects us so strongly. That insight matters. It gives us perspective on what we've been experiencing and helps us bring it honestly into the light.

But insight by itself is not the same as transformation. We can understand a pattern and still repeat it. We can recognize that we need support and continue trying to manage alone. We can collect good teaching, save helpful videos, and fill notebooks with things we want to remember without ever taking the next step those truths are inviting us to take.

Insight Is an Invitation

God does not show us something so we can become more discouraged with ourselves. He brings truth into the light so we can begin walking with Him in a new way.

That new way may begin quietly. Your next step may be to sit with one passage of Scripture and let it speak to the self-talk you have been rehearsing. It may be an honest prayer in which you stop telling God what you think you should feel and tell Him what is actually happening. It may be asking a safe person to listen, joining a small group, making an appointment with a pastor or counselor, or receiving other appropriate care.

The question is not, “What should everyone do?” The question is, “What is God inviting me to do next?”

Your Next Step Does Not Have to Be Impressive

Sometimes we stay stuck because we are looking for a step large enough to solve the entire problem. We want to know how the whole story will turn out before we move. Yet Psalm 32:8 does not promise that we will see the entire road at once. God promises to instruct us, teach us, and guide us in the way we should go.

A faithful step may be small enough to take today. It might be reading one chapter, listening during a walk, completing one lesson, asking someone to pray with you, or admitting that you need more support than you currently have. Small does not mean insignificant. One honest, indicated step can become the place where understanding begins turning into a practiced new way of life.

In Why Is Change So Hard?, we explain that “God’s idea of perfection is maturity” and that we are designed to take “that next step and that next step” as we grow. Heart change usually does not happen because we suddenly understand everything or make one dramatic decision. It develops as we keep connecting with Christ, practicing obedience, and allowing Him to establish a new response where an old pathway once felt automatic.

In the final module of The Anxiety Iceberg, we are not told that we should now have anxiety “figured out.” We are encouraged to recognize what God has begun, receive the value of safe connection, and consider what will help us continue walking in peace and heart change. The end of a lesson can become a bridge into what comes next.

Ask: What's Next?

If The Anxiety Iceberg has helped you recognize something beneath the surface, you do not need to use every resource in the collection. Choose the one that fits the way you can best receive and respond right now.

The eBook may be the right step if you want to read slowly, highlight, journal, and reflect privately. The audiobook may serve you if listening helps you receive teaching during a walk, drive, or daily routine. The online course offers a more guided path with lessons, reflection, Scripture, and practical exercises. The Small Group Kit is designed for churches, recovery ministries, and communities that want to work through the material with honest conversation, shared learning, prayer, and safe connection.

You may benefit from more than one format, but you do not have to begin with all of them. You also do not have to choose a resource simply because it is available. Stop, wait, and listen. Ask God what kind of help would support honest obedience rather than add another burden or expectation.

The complete Anxiety Iceberg Collection is available at no cost through September 30, 2026. Choose what can help you receive, practice, connect, and take your next faithful step.

Reflection Question

What truth, relationship, resource, or form of support may God be inviting me to receive as my next faithful step?

Prayer

Father, thank You for meeting me with truth and for guiding me without shame or pressure. Show me what You have already begun in my heart and what step You are inviting me to take next. Give me humility to receive the kind of support I need and wisdom to recognize what fits this season. Help me move in partnership with You instead of trying to solve everything at once. Teach me to keep abiding in Christ, walking with healthy people, and allowing Your peace to rule in me. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Today's Step of Obedience

Pause and ask God, “What is my next right, indicated step?” Write down the first honest step that comes to mind, then test it with these questions:

  1. Does this move me toward truth, peace, connection, and responsible care?

  2. Is this something I can actually begin today?

  3. Do I need another person’s help to take it?

Choose one action. Open the resource, read the passage, send the message, make the appointment, or ask for prayer. You do not need to finish the whole journey today. Take the next faithful step you have been given.

Why is Change So Hard?

Recognizing that something needs to change does not automatically make changing it easy. This conversation explores why old choices, practiced responses, spiritual disconnection, and familiar pathways can keep pulling us toward previous patterns—and why lasting heart change develops through connection with Christ, growing maturity, and one faithful step at a time.
