Daily Devotional: Transfer Judgment to God

By David A. Case

Overcoming Trauma: Redeeming Pain

“Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord comes, who will both bring to light the hidden things…” (1 Corinthians 4:5, NKJV)

In the end, God asks me to trust Him as the ultimate Judge. That is not an escape from justice. It is an embrace of real justice. God will hold every person accountable for every action. No one gets off free. That truth changes how I respond to being violated.

Biblical forgiveness is transferring my right to judge and my claim to restitution to God. It is laying down the role of executioner and letting God be God. This is where forgiveness becomes a spiritual act, not merely an emotional one. It requires faith: faith that God sees, faith that God remembers, faith that God will act rightly.

There is another spiritual dynamic here that many people notice in experience. As long as I hold tightly to my right to judge, it is as if God stays out of the situation. God does not go where He is not invited. When I release judgment to Him, it seems to release His ability to intervene. Whether one frames that as spiritual law or simply as the internal freedom that makes room for God’s presence, the outcome is the same: surrender creates space for God.

This does not mean I will always see justice in the way I expect. It does mean I can trust that outcomes will fit heart flows. A hard heart produces shallow relationships. A selfish heart dries up pleasure. Torment increases. When behavior grows grotesque, consequences follow. God is not mocked. Reality has structure. Judgment is real.

So forgiveness is not letting someone “get away with it.” It is refusing to carry the burden of judgment. It is choosing freedom. It is opening the door for God to do what only He can do.

Reflection Question

What fears rise in me when I consider letting God be the Judge instead of trying to manage justice myself?

Prayer

Father, I release my right to judge. I hand You my demand for restitution. You are righteous, and You will do what is right. Free my heart from obsession, and fill the space with Your presence. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Obedience Step for Today

Pray a simple transfer prayer today: “Lord, I hand this person and this offense to You. You decide justice.” Repeat it whenever the urge to replay the offense returns.
